Dr. Diogenes is a professor and Chair of the Department of Endodontics at 17³Ô¹ÏÍø. Dr. Diogenes is a clinician-scientist and a leader in Endodontics education. Dr. Diogenes has published numerous scientific articles and textbook chapters in the areas of neuroscience, pain, pulp biology and pulp regeneration. Among numerous awards received, he received the prestigious Osetek full time educator award from the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) in 2020, and in 2022 he was honored with the Minnie Stevens Piper Professor award. He actively lectures in national and international endodontic meetings and a he is a Director of the American Board of Endodontics.

The mission of our department is to prepare dentists and endodontists with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to provide endodontic treatment of the highest quality to all patients. We achieve this mission by providing comprehensive, cutting-edge education and clinical training to dentists and endodontic specialists in training while advancing the science and art in Endodontics through research and new clinical advancements. These efforts are supported by outstanding faculty who lead the field in endodontics, academic administration, and clinical staff. Research is an important activity in the Department of Endodontics. Although our funded projects cover diverse topics, much of our efforts emphasize translational and basic science research projects that evaluate pain mechanisms, resolution of endodontic infections and dental regeneration. These studies are facilitated by a group of basic scientists with intimate interaction with clinician-scientists and clinicians to address meaningful gaps in knowledge with the long-term goal to improve patient care and clinical outcomes.
