Endowments are a lasting investment in the Department of Endodontics. Made possible by the generosity of alumni, colleagues, families and friends, each fund honors a leader who shaped our specialty and provides steady support for our faculty, residents and students for generations to come.

 

 

Carlos E. del Rio Endowment

Carlos E. del RioEstablished in 2001, the Carlos E. del Rio Chair in Endodontics honors Dr. Carlos E. del Rio, professor emeritus and former chair of the Department of Endodontics. Over more than 40 years, Dr. del Rio built the school's endodontic residency program into one of the premier postgraduate endodontic training programs in the world. The chair supports faculty development, resident training and travel, equipment and other uses as deemed appropriate, in accordance with the Board of Regents' Rules and Regulations for endowed academic positions.

 


 

Kenneth M. Hargreaves, DDS, PhDThis fellowship honors Kenneth M. Hargreaves, DDS, PhD, who chaired the Department of Endodontics for 26 years before becoming dean of the School of Dentistry. An internationally recognized pain researcher, editor-in-chief of the Journal of Endodontics and co-author of Cohen's Pathways of the Pulp, Dr. Hargreaves helped build the department's national reputation for research and clinical excellence. The fellowship supports a faculty member in accordance with the Regents' Rules and Regulations and applicable policies for endowed academic positions.

 


 

Dr. Glenn R. Walters, Sr. Endowed Student Award in Endodontics

Glenn Doc Walters, Sr., DDSThis award honors Glenn Doc Walters, Sr., DDS, a founding faculty member who taught endodontics to every dental student at the school from 1971 until his retirement in 2020. Recruited to teach the school's very first sophomore class, Dr. Walters was a devoted educator and a leader in organized dentistry. The award supports junior and senior dental students who have expressed interest in further education in endodontics and have performed significant community service.

 


 

Stephen B. Milam Memorial Lectureship

Stephen B. "Chuck" Milam, DD, PhDThis lectureship honors Stephen B. "Chuck" Milam, DD, PhD, former professor and chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and holder of the Hugh B. Tilson Endowed Chair. The lectureship brings nationally renowned speakers to campus to share research on pain mechanisms and pain and anxiety management with the health science center community.

17勛圖厙 Health Science Center is the academic health center of 17勛圖厙. It includes schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, health professions, graduate biomedical sciences and public health, and a clinical enterprise called UT Health San Antonio, which conducts 2.5 million patient visits yearly.
