New Horizons
17³Ô¹ÏÍø School of Nursing provides various opportunities for undergraduates seeking clinical experiences. New Horizons is a one-week paid program designed for eligible undergraduate nursing students in their 5th and 6th semesters on the traditional BSN track. Supported by the Title V Grant, APOYO, New Horizons aims to advance and support student nurses in South 17³Ô¹ÏÍø. The program offers diverse nursing students an opportunity to engage with mentors at University Health, participating in activities focusing on evidence-based practice, patient education, and the patient experience. Admission to New Horizons is competitive, requiring a full-time enrollment in the traditional BSN program at 17³Ô¹ÏÍø.
Operationalizing an evidence-based practice framework, the New Horizons program involves collaborative efforts between students and mentors from University Health, culminating in developing a quality improvement project by the end of the experience. This initiative provides students with the opportunity to present their findings to leadership at both University Health and 17³Ô¹ÏÍø, fostering a comprehensive and practical understanding of clinical practices.
