Academics

The Pediatric Dentistry Certificate program includes an advanced and balanced curriculum in didactic and clinical areas that is conducted over a 24-month period of time. This program emphasizes hospital dentistry, conscious sedation, interceptive orthodontics and special patient care.

The pediatric dentistry residency program is available in San Antonio and Laredo, with Laredo residents participating in classroom activities by teleconference as a distant-training site.

Primary objectives of this program include clinical experience in:

  • Restorative dentistry
  • Behavior management
  • Treatment of medically compromised patients 

The academic path that students will follow during the course of this program includes hospital rotations, teaching responsibilities and a required research project.

17³Ô¹ÏÍø Health Science Center is the academic health center of 17³Ô¹ÏÍø. It includes schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, health professions, graduate biomedical sciences and public health, and a clinical enterprise called UT Health San Antonio, which conducts 2.5 million patient visits yearly.
