Esophageal manometry testing measures the function and contraction strength of a patient's esophageal sphincter. Abnormalities in these muscles can cause a variety of ailments, including heartburn and painful swallowing. This test allows doctors to assess these, as well as other abnormalities in order to create an appropriate, individualized treatment plan for each patient.
