17³Ô¹ÏÍø Firefighter Tuition Waiver

17³Ô¹ÏÍø Firefighter Tuition Waiver at UT Health San Antonio

Firefighters—whether employed or serving as volunteers—may be eligible for a full tuition waiver under 17³Ô¹ÏÍø Education Code 54.353 when taking courses at UT Health San Antonio, provided they serve within a political subdivision of 17³Ô¹ÏÍø.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Employment: Paid firefighter employed by a 17³Ô¹ÏÍø political subdivision OR active volunteer firefighter for at least one year
  • Credentials: Appropriate firefighter or EMS credentialing
  • Admission: Must be accepted into the fully online Bachelor of Science in Emergency Health Sciences (EHS) program
  • Academic Progress: Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA

Application Process

To use the waiver while enrolled in the B.S. in Emergency Health Sciences program at 17³Ô¹ÏÍø, follow these steps after you are admitted and registered:

1. Complete the Waiver Form

  • Download the official Firefighter Tuition Exemption Request Form from the .
  • Must be submitted on your department or agency’s letterhead.

2. Prepare Documentation

  • Proof of employment as a paid firefighter or one year of active volunteer service with advanced/state certification.
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements (minimum 2.0 GPA).

3. Submit the Form

  • Email the completed form to VSFA@uthscsa.edu before the census date of the semester.
  • Forms submitted before admission or registration will not be processed.

4. Processing

  • VSFA will verify eligibility and forward the approved form to the Registrar and Bursar.
  • Tuition and eligible fees will be waived and reflected on your student account.

5. Renew Annually

  • A new waiver must be submitted each academic year you wish to use the benefit.
