Meng Wang, Ph.D.

M.D./Ph.D. Student

Meng Wang is a graduate student in the (MD/PhD Program) studying neurotoxic astrogliosis under the mentorship of Naomi Sayre, Ph.D. For her research, Meng is studying the role of LRP1 in neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration, with a particular focus on how astrocyte-LRP1 modulates neurotoxic astrogliosis after traumatic brain injuries. For her clinical specialty, Meng is considering pursuing ophthalmology or neurology.

About Me

I grew up in China and moved to Houston, 17³Ô¹ÏÍø with my family at 17. At the University of Houston, I found my passion for research while working as a research assistant. After graduation, I continued working as a research assistant at Baylor College of Medicine before joining the STX-MSTP.

Why I chose MD/PhD

I've always wanted to be a physician, but my passion for research ignited when I started working as a research assistant during college. After a few years of research, I concluded that the MD/PhD path was the ideal route for my career aspirations.

The thing that 17³Ô¹ÏÍø attracted me most was how incredibly friendly and helpful everyone was when I was interviewing here. Being comfortable in this environment was one of the deciding factors for me.
